Chapter 4: Dismantling the Dissociated Factors¶

What this chapter does. Possession, non-possession, the life faculty, the homogeneous character of a group, unmanifest matter: how each denial runs. The core is not the score of each round but the redrawing of the criterion. The school's threshold for the real was indispensability in statement; what Vasubandhu rewrites the threshold into, and what drops out of its own accord once it is rewritten. Direct joint with Part 15, Chapter 4: there, why these entities were built; here, how they are sent off.

Structure.

First, the denials one by one. The joint of each; why the denial of possession cuts deepest (the replacement is already in hand — see Chapter 3).

Second, the rewriting of the criterion. The new boundary of the real in Vasubandhu's hands; its relation to the Chapter 2 list.

Third, a marker for Saṅghabhadra. Which items he defends hardest; left to Chapter 7, only marked here.

Fourth, the division of labor with Part 15. The regress argument of that chapter is not rerun; its conclusion is cited.
