Guide to This Part

[PLANNED] This chapter has not yet been written; what follows is a skeleton. The skeleton is laid out at full-treatment scale: the brief version walks only the trunk of each item, and a later expansion thickens the same outline without restructuring.

The closing part of the division: the second form of the Chinese perfect teaching, set against Tiantai point for point. Classification against classification (five teachings versus eight), device against device (the dharmadhatu against the three thousand), nature-origination against nature-inclusion. And one battle belonging to this book itself: Huayan makes sameness and difference into features of the dharmadhatu; Part 18 made them logical constants that legislate without being defined. Whether same-and-different is grammar or the grain of reality is fought out in chapter 4.

  • Seven chapters: from scripture to school; the fourfold dharmadhatu; the ten mysteries; the six characteristics; nature-origination; the Golden Lion; verdict and the close of the division.
  • All twenty source texts already in the corpus.
